A few decades ago, the young boy Mihai Stetcu took his first photo at the age of six, portraying his grandparents with his father’s Smena 8 Russian film camera, probably like many of us, more or less. But for him, that instant was the one in a lifetime moment when you realize that this is what you’re going to do for the rest of your life. In that singular moment, you decide to put all of your future efforts into a particular direction, being pushed by a deep love for something that captured your soul so unexpectedly, always trying to become as good as you can, always trying to improve yourself with an unbelievable thirst for more. In his case that was photography.
Still back in time but much closer to the present days, Mihai Stetcu (Mishu for friends) graduated the Academy of Visual Arts in his hometown, Cluj Napoca, and soon started his professional photographer career as a photo journalist with some of the most important local publications.
In 2003 he decided to accept the challenge to move to Bucharest, the Romanian capital city, where he worked for the biggest Romanian sports newspaper, Gazeta Sporturilor. Meanwhile, he continued to feed a few of the most important news agencies as Associated Press, EPA and Reuters.
Another notable chapter in Mishu’s career begins back in 2007 when he started to collaborate with Red Bull in several events. Three years later, he gets acceptance for a two months Red Bull Photofiles internship in Fuschl, Austria, which was going to entitle him as an Official Red Bull Photographer, helping him to learn that Red Bull is much more than an energy drink, it’s a lifestyle. As a “side effect”, he is now a specialized photographer in: extreme sports, adventures, aerial, expeditions and action. Almost everything regarding sports photography.
Although his life became all about adventure and extreme sports, he has also been touched by a totally different kind of photography that is fashion, lifestyle and advertising, collaborating with many Romanian magazines and TV channels, even participating as one of the photographers in The Next Top Model by Catalin Botezatu TV show, aired on Antena 1, orchestrating an impressive underwater photo shoot.
I can’t tell for sure what his most prominent asset is, but it’s a sure thing that it’s one of these: the professionalism, the creativity, the love for photography or his outstanding social skills and kindness. It’s hard to decide because every time you think one of them is the one, you’ll get surprised.
As a conclusion, either you are organizing a local sports event or a worldwide championship, either you are in need of a product or fashion photographer, you should definitely contact Mishu. If he won’t be available for the job or if he won’t feel like he’s the right man for the job, he will always be glad to recommend you somebody else.
